The Department of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at IIT Hyderabad invites applications for faculty positions from outstanding candidates with research expertise in any area of AI, including the intersection of AI with other disciplines. These positions are part of a strategic expansion of IITH to strengthen our unique positioning in the country as a pioneer in AI pedagogy and research, as well as inspired by the growing use of AI across disciplines in science and engineering.
We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in the area of AI and its applications to various fields. They should have strong academic background in any area of science and engineering, but require an outstanding publication record in any area of AI and its applications. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong foundation in AI/ML, and be capable of offering Institute-wide courses in AI and ML to the growing community of AI users and practitioners across various departments at IITH.
The Department of AI at IITH offers an intellectually stimulating environment and access to an AI Centre equipped with state-of-the art compute facilities, including multiple DGX1s, DGX2s, and an ongoing procurement of the more recent A100s. The AI department has a strong engagement with other institute initiatives such as the Centre for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CfHE), AFI i-TIC Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator (AISEA), and Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems (TIHAN). Located in one of the prominent IT hubs in the country, Hyderabad offers access to many leading national and international corporates in AI, a vibrant startup culture in AI, multiple DRDO and CSIR labs that are looking to adopt AI, as well as strong presence of other sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, aerospace, and healthcare.
About AI@IITH
IIT Hyderabad, an institute of national importance established in 2008 by the Govt of India, has developed a strong ecosystem for AI pedagogy and research, and offers India’s first BTech (AI) program, as well as MTech and PhD programs in AI. The department currently consists of ~25 affiliated faculty, working in various areas of AI including machine learning, computer vision, speech understanding, natural language processing, social media analysis, robotics, signal processing, high-dimensional data analysis, distributed AI, compilers for AI, embedded AI; intersection of AI and other disciplines such as AI and IoT, AI and wireless networks, AI and design; as well as applications of AI in healthcare, smart transport, security and surveillance, agriculture, fraud analytics, e-commerce, astronomy and aerospace. Your latest CV which includes contact details of at least 3 referees. It should also contain details about student guidance (at masters and doctoral levels), sponsored projects or other funding obtained as PI or co-PI and post-PhD research experience and other research related activities.
List of publications along with DOI links to each publication. It is encouraged that additional information for each publication such as link to Scopus /Google Scholar profile, impact factor, core ranking, citations for each publication etc., is provided.
Teaching statement highlighting new courses that you wish to propose as well as which existing courses at UG and PG level (please see our current curriculum at https://ai.iith.ac.in/ ) you will be willing to teach.
Research statement which should contain your immediate and long term research goals.
Copies of 3 of your recent publications with yourself as a key contributor that you consider highlights your research aptitude in the best manner.

IIT Hyderabad invites applications from Indian nationals including Persons of Indian Origins (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Foreign Nationals to the posts of Assistant Professor (Grade-II), Assistant Professor (Grade-I), Associate Professor and Professor from exceptionally bright and highly motivated candidates with an established record of independent, high quality research and commitment to teaching in areas related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Foreign national here means a person who does not have either an Indian passport, or a PIO/OCI card. Foreign nationals can be offered contractual appointment for up to five years. The appointment can be renewed thereafter. Applications at any rank and of any demographic will be considered, although female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
