Department of AI, IIT Hyderabad
The Department of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at IIT Hyderabad, founded in 2019, is dedicated to providing cutting-edge academic programs that equip students with a deep understanding of AI theory and practical applications. With a strong focus on fostering innovation and research, the department aims to build a comprehensive ecosystem that nurtures future leaders and pioneers in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
Our Mission
The department's mission is to โEnable and facilitate students to become leaders in the AI industry and academia nationally and internationally, as well as to meet the pressing demands of the country in the various subareas and applications of AIโ.
First of its kind in India
The AI department at IITH launched the BTech in AI program in 2019, making it the first of its kind in India and only the third globally, following similar initiatives at MIT and CMU.

B. Tech in Artificial Intelligence
4 Years Program
- Unique Feature: Fractal academic structure.

M.Tech Teaching Assistantship
2 Years Program
- Duration: 2 years
- 1 year of coursework
- 1 year of faculty-mentored research work
M.Tech Research Assistantship
3 Years Program
- Duration: 3 years
- 1 year of coursework
- 2 years of faculty-mentored and industry-guided research work.
PhD
- Duration: 1 year coursework + few years of research
- Work on cutting-edge research projects with faculty
and industry partners - Assist faculty as Teaching Assistants in UG and PG

Professional Program in AI & Emerging Technologies
A 5-week full-time Professional Program in Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies, jointly offered by IIT Hyderabad and TalentSprint, and delivered on IIT Hyderabad’s Campus during the summer of 2019. The Program is best suited for Young Professionals and College Graduates seeking to build world-class expertise in AI and emerging technologies, and obtain professional certification from IIT Hyderabad.
