Technology developed to detect bike drivers without helmets in surveillance videos

The research team comprising Prof. C Krishna Mohan, Dinesh Singh and C Vishnu have developed an AI-based solution to catch bike riders without helmets. The institute has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Hyderabad City Police to access the surveillance videos. They plan to bring on board an industry partner to push the technology into the market. The software is inserted on a card attached to the CCTVs and it will alert the central database about the errant riders. It comprises a convolutional neural network that scans images like the human brain. IITH has filed its patents for it.
